North Pennine Ferret Welfare & Boarding - (aiming to give Ferrets a better chance!)
Spencer's 10th Birthday Party

Held at Durham Pets At Home
12 March 2011

It is with tear filled eyes that I write to let Spencer's fans know that Spencer (I'm 10 years old you know!) is no longer with us.

He passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his cage mates in October 2011.

We are having a memorial garden at our new home for our old soldier where he will Dook in Peace forever.

Spencer the Ferret was 10 years old!
12 March 2011

Spencer came to the North Pennine Ferret welfare Centre 3 years ago, aged 7yrs; he had sister (Dewdrop) who was the same age and a younger brother (Big Finlay) who was 4yrs old at the time. North Pennine Ferret Welfare rescued them from absolute squalor.

Unfortunately Dewdrop only lasted 3 months before she passed away, Big Finlay died aged 6.

On 12 March 2011 it was Spencer's 10th Birthday and we couldn't let it pass without a celebration!

Not your conventional cake. This cake was made with lamb hearts, chicken livers and egg yolks. The white of the egg is not good for ferrets.
The end of a long happy & special day
The end of a long happy & special day
Spencer the ferret is 10 years old, which makes him 100 years old in human years. He enjoyed his day but was happy to climb into his hammock at bed-time!

In human years Spencer is 100 years old, he is still perfectly healthy except for a dodgy tooth.

Spencer plays with the younger boys and enjoys all of the things that they do and he loves the snow!

Spencer still walks around with his tail in the air though!

Ferrets are clean animals and because of the length of time he was living in dirty conditions, he was still psychologically scarred and will always try to keep his tail off of the ground and out of the dirt, even though his cage is no longer dirty!

Spencer will be loved and cared for until his time by
North Pennine ferret welfare and anyone who is fortunate enough to meet him will, without doubt, fall in love with our old gentleman!
